Those are historical cookies. This cookie recipe came from the relatives of Australia and New Zealand soldiers that were serving Gallipoli, during the first world war.
Ingredients:
85g of rolled oats
85g of flaked coconut(dehydrated/dry)
100g of flour
100g of sugar
100g of melted butter
1 spoon (soup) of golden syrup(you can a use a homemade golden syrup)
1 spoon (tea) of sodium bicarbonate
Preheat the oven at 160°C. Put the oats, the coconut, the flour and the sugar in a bowl. Reserve. Heat the butter in a pan(or the microwave) and put in a bowl with the golden syrup. Reserve. Mix the bicarbonate with 2 spoons(soup) of boiling water, and then, mix with the composition of the golden syrup. Make a hole in the mix of the oats, then put the mix of the golden syrup on the hole. Mix with care, till the composition combine well and form a paste. Put spoons (dessert) of paste in a broiler greased with butter, leaving a space of 3 cm(at least) between each cookie( I normally leave more). Bake for 8-10 minutes, or till they become golden brown. Transfer to a grid and let it cold.
Makes at least 20 cookies.
